Pavāru māja (Chefs’ House) is a Michelin Green Star restaurant located in Līgatne, Latvia. This is the story of one man’s passion for sustainable cooking, and the magical transformation of a building that was once a maternity hospital.

"Cooking is perhaps the most ephemeral of all arts", says Ēriks Dreibants, chef and owner of Pavāru māja, in explaining the idea behind the book. "That's why we wanted to preserve this art in book form." The book is not a cookbook, although it does contain recipes.

Alongside the recipes and colourful, inspiring photographs, there are also stories about the people who grew the produce used by the chefs at Pavāru māja to create these dishes. High-quality ingredients are undoubtedly just as important as the cooking process, which is why farmers, producers, and fishermen are given special recognition in this book. The same goes for architects, designers, and craftsmen, whose work is both on display and used daily at Pavāru māja.
However, the location is just as important – the village of Līgatne, where Pavāru māja is located, and the building itself, which was built as a maternity hospital and later, during the Soviet era, housed the town's outpatient health clinic. Consequently, a large part of the book is devoted to Līgatne and its cultural, historical and natural values.
