Brightest flavors in our region

By collaborating with local farmers of Līgatne and by exploring the surrounding wilderness, we are looking for the characteristic flavors of our region. Our menu is built around slow food philosophy and seasonality of products that we cook from "nose to tail" whenever possible.

Our location allows us to store farmers' products in the ancient sandstone cellars of Līgatne, use the bounties of Gauja National Park and—for the third year in a row— include our own garden and bee products in our menu.

Together with the members of Slow Food Straupe, we focus on restoring the threatened varieties that are characteristic of Latvia (sour cherries, Latvian yellow turnip, Lake Burtnieki zander, ancient herb seeds and vegetables, etc.).

  • Evermore we are using natural foods, unharmed by man or industrialization

  • When consuming nature’s bounties, we comply with all restrictions and properly consider the quantities needed in order to preserve biodiversity

  • Our carefully selected products have certificates clearly showing their origin that is in line with responsible farming and fishing regulations

  • In the cooking process, we strive to use every single part of the product

  • Supported by wildlife experts, we continue exploring and discovering the unique tastes of the natural foods characteristic only to our region, which makes our food evermore contemporary

  • We invest our thoughts into the work we do, so that our children could live in a better world than ours!

People with us

Behind every project, there's a human. Architecture was renovated and interior was designed together with Lauder Architects, and the garden was created under the guidance of Ilze Rukšāne (Alps Landscape Architects). Just like the work of local farmers and wild grown products are the core of our menu, for serving we have chosen local dishes by Evija Ceramics, Rihards Vidzickis (Vienkoči Park). Artis Nīmanis has created all Pavāru māja's glass lamps, and Miks Ozols is the author of all metalwork. Furniture solutions by Straubek.

Behind the story of Pavāru māja, there's our collaboration with humans. Passionate, knowledgeable and in close personal contact throughout our collaboration. We believe that sustainability lies in trusting professionals.

Nature Observation Garden

The garden surrounding Pavāru māja is a life-long dream of the host Ēriks. It is an opportunity to stop, listen and learn about nature — bird songs, bug hotels, butterfly- attracting flowers and bushes, raised beds of herbs and vegetables. It's a place where you can rewind and see things from a new perspective; and where children can run wild and have fun on the swing set.

Pavāru māja is located in the historical center of Līgatne Paper Mill, on the riverbank, surrounded by high trees and hills. The building has long been important for the people of Līgatne — it was built in 1901 as the Maternity Home "Wilhelma". We are proud to have renovated this house, being able to keep it alive and tell the story of Līgatne history.

Honouring the history

When renovating the old Līgatne Maternity Home, we focused on using historical and natural materials, such as limestone plaster and paint. Wherever possible, we have also preserved the building's historical architecture to build on the current history of Līgatne.

Pavāru māja is located between forests and Nature Observers’ Park which allows us, as a restaurant, to close the natural food cycle in an environmentally respectful way – we recycle organic waste by composting it and using it in spring as new soil for herb and vegetable beds.

Our Story

Far enough from the city to escape everyday struggles

Ēriks Dreibants believes that everyone should have a place away from the city to spend time with their loved ones. Having organized birdwatching tours for several years in Līgatne, Latvia, he had little doubt that this place, with so many things to see and do, was a destination worth sharing. Far enough from the city to escape everyday struggles; close enough to return back quickly.
