The book tells the story of one of Riga’s best-known restaurants – 3 Chefs Restaurant – which opened in September 2011 in the Jēkabs Barracks. It was a time when the restaurant scene around the world was rapidly changing – Noma in Copenhagen had become the best restaurant in the world, menus began to reflect the seasonality of ingredients, and chefs increasingly chose components and products characteristic of the Nordic climate and landscapes.

The same shift was initiated in Riga by the 3 Chefs Restaurant, fundamentally transforming the local restaurant offering and breaking existing ideas about restaurant culture. In 2024, this culminated in recognition from the Michelin restaurant guide. The book, dedicated to the restaurant’s 15th anniversary, is divided into three parts – The Restaurant, Recipes, Riga.
The first part provides an extensive insight into the time when the restaurant was created, telling the story of the chefs who, each with their own signature style, shaped the restaurant’s menu.
The second part compiles their favourite recipes, while the third is designed as a guide to Riga – short but informative stories about the surrounding neighbourhood, enhanced with artistic photographs by Jānis Deinats. In addition, the restaurant’s four owners take the reader on a walk through their favourite places in Riga, revealing the city’s fascinating history and modern scenes.
